Srinagar: In a significant move aimed at delivering justice to the families of terror victims in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday chaired a high-level meeting and issued firm directives to district and police authorities.
Taking strong note of long-ignored cases, LG Sinha instructed Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to reopen terror cases that were “deliberately buried” in the past, ensure that FIRs are registered, and provide employment to the next of kin (NoKs) of victims on priority.
“Justice cannot be denied to the families who lost their loved ones to Pakistan-backed terrorism,” the LG said, asserting that those responsible for such deliberate inaction will also be held accountable.
In a bold directive, LG Sinha asked officers to identify individuals within government departments who were part of the terror ecosystem and had a role in killings of innocent Kashmiris. “Those who killed innocents and are today working under the garb of government jobs must be exposed and removed,” he said.
To ensure focused support for families of terror victims, the LG announced the creation of a Special Cell in the LG Secretariat, with a similar unit to be set up in the office of the Chief Secretary. Additionally, a toll-free helpline* will be launched to address grievances of the affected families directly.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment, Sinha said, “Every possible assistance will be extended to these families. The culprits who have been roaming free for decades will be brought to justice.”
The meeting marked a decisive shift in the government’s approach toward redressing long-pending injustices and dismantling embedded networks that allowed perpetrators to escape consequences.
