A 50 years old Principal of a private school was allegedly stabbed to death by two students of a private school in Bas village of Hisar district of Haryana, the police said on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Jagbir Singh Pannu-Principal of Kartar Memorial Senior Secondary School in Bas village, Narnaund.
The police said that the incident took place in the school premises on Thursday when two minor students studying in class XI and XII fatally stabbed him following a dispute over school discipline as the principal reportedly reprimanded them for not cutting their hair and asked them to maintain discipline
The police officials associated with the investigation said that the Principal had scolded the students after repeated warnings regarding their unkempt appearance and violation of dress code norms.
According to Hansi Superintendent of Police Amit Yashvardhan, the principal had reprimanded the boys multiple times for failing to get proper haircuts and wearing their uniforms improperly.
Agitated over the repeated reprimands, the students allegedly brought a folding knife to school and stabbed the principal multiple times. The incident was captured on the school’s CCTV cameras, showing the boys fleeing the scene. One of them was seen discarding the weapon shortly after the attack.
Despite efforts by school staff to rush him to a private hospital in Hisar, the principal succumbed to his injuries.
However, the incident took place on the Guru Purnima, a day traditionally dedicated to celebrating the bond between teachers and students, has spread shockwaves among the students and teachers of the school.
The police said that the suspects, both believed to be around 15 years old, are currently on the run. Police teams were actively pursuing leads, reviewing CCTV footage, and collecting eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the events leading up to the crime. Investigators are also exploring whether the boys were influenced by external elements, such as possible gang affiliations, a possibility that remains under examination.
Principal’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and a detailed investigation is underway to uncover the full motive behind the attack. The incident reminded the 2018 incident of Yamunanagar when an 18 years old class XII student had gunned down his school principal Ritu Chhabra (36) inside here office in Swami Vivekananda Public school in Thapar Colony area of Yamunagar city.
