Two Brothers Drown, Sister Rescued After Sudden Flooding in Rajouri Stream

Rajouri, June 26: In a heart-wrenching incident in the Sialsui area of Kalakote in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, three siblings were swept away while crossing a stream on Wednesday. Two boys tragically lost their lives, while their sister was rescued by local residents.

According to officials, the children had taken their livestock to graze in the nearby forest and were attempting to cross a stream on their way back when a sudden surge of water caught them off guard. Hearing their cries, local villagers rushed to the scene and managed to pull the girl out alive. Unfortunately, the two boys could not be saved and their bodies were later recovered.

The incident has plunged the local community into mourning, with family members inconsolable over the tragic loss. Police and civil administration officials reached the spot shortly after the incident and met with the grieving family.

In the wake of the tragedy, authorities have issued a public advisory, urging locals to avoid venturing near river beds or attempting to cross streams during the monsoon season, warning that sudden water surges could prove fatal. An official said, “We request people to remain alert and keep children away from such danger zones, especially during this time of the year.”

The administration has launched an investigation and is also considering additional safety measures for vulnerable areas near streams and seasonal rivers.
