
Attempting to Bribe SSP’s Reader After Taking ₹1 Lakh in Matrimonial Case
CHANDIGARH: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posted in Faridkot district of Punjab has been arrested on corruption charges after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh and then attempting to bribe a subordinate of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to suppress a complaint against him.
As per the information the accused identified as Rajan Pal posted as DSP Crime Against Women has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The action was taken on a complaint filed by Kiranjit Kaur-a resident of Pakka village. The woman alleged that the officer had demanded Rs 1 lakh from her family to take action in a matrimonial dispute involving her.
According to her borther Karmtej Singh they paid the bribe as demanded by the DSP, but no action was taken by the officer even after the payment. When the family brought the matter to the attention of SSP Dr. Pragya Jain, the accused officer allegedly tried to cover his tracks.
Meanwhile, the accused DSP had reportedly approached Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswinder Singh the reader to the SSP and attempted to offer him Rs 1 lakh to bury the complaint.
According to the police an FIR was registered against DSP Rajan Pal at the Faridkot City Police Station under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and he has been taken in into custody and further investigation is underway.
