Manipur: Chiefs Issue Total Ban on Forest, State Government Activities in Kangpokpi

Manipur: Amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, the Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association (SAHILCA) has announced an immediate and total ban on all activities and programmes undertaken by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, within Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district.nbir

SAHILCA categorically stated that the Forest Department must halt all operations in the district with immediate effect, underscoring its strong opposition to any initiatives or activities being carried out by the state government.

The chiefs’ association further declared a complete ban on all programmes and activities pursued by the Government of Manipur in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas of Kangpokpi district until the current conflict is amicably resolved.

Additionally, SAHILCA directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to refrain from implementing the state government’s flagship outreach initiatives, including “Go to Hills” and “Go to Villages,” in all Kuki-Zo areas of the district.

According to SAHILCA, the continuation of government activities during this period of violence and heightened mistrust would be “insensitive and provocative,” potentially worsening tensions on the ground.
