Bengaluru: An Additional SP rank police officer posted at Dharwad district in Karnataka has tendered his resignation citing the reason was due to the head of the State CM of Karnataka Siddaramaiah had publicly humiliated him. Addl SP Narayan Baramani’s resignation letter has gone viral on social media.
The senior police officer’s decision of resignation comes little over two months after a video that went viral on Social Media on April 28th, this year where CM gestures as if he was going to slap the senior police officer.
On April 28th, during a Congress organised protest convention in Belagavi, CM Siddaramaiah had lost his cool when a few women from the audience waved black flags at the CM while shouting slogans against the Congress leaders on the dias.
Congress party under the leadership of the CM had organised a convention program in Belagavi District protesting against the Centre for the issues of price rise when a few women from the audience protested.
Angered CM asked who was the SP there, and subsequently gestured as if he was going to slap him.
The Senior police officer – Narayan Baramani, Addl SP has now written a letter to the chief secretary that he is resigning from his job – taking VRS due to the humiliation meted out to him by the CM of the State.
The police officer’s resignation letter has gone viral on social media. In the letter, the officer blames the Chief Minister’s public behavior for his decision to step down.
He stated in the letter – “The Chief Minister shouted at me in a loud voice, with disrespect: “Ya Yavano Illi, SP Baraya Illi” (Hey, Who is the SP here… come here)
Mistaking the call for him, the officer stepped up respectfully, only to be humiliated on the dias in public.
The incident was caught on camera and widely broadcast across TV and digital platforms.
The officer states in the letter though he avoided the physical slap, he could not escape the public shame. He serves as a senior police officer to address others’ grievances while there is no one to support address his grievance that he was humiliated in public by Siddaramaiah.
Calling it an irreversible blow to his dignity, the officer had sought the acceptance of his resignation.
Narayan Baramani, ASP said – “I have always been part of a disciplined department. I have conveyed my feelings to my superiors. My senior officers, the Chief Minister, and the Home Minister have spoken about this matter. I am now reporting for my routine duties.”
When asked about his next plan of action, the officer said that the government will decide on that.
