Rajouri: major success along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army on the intervening night of June 29 thwarted a major infiltration attempt in the Tarkundi-Gambhir sector of Rajouri district, inflicting injuries on at least four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists and capturing a key infiltrator guide alive.
Sources said alert troops deployed in the forward areas picked up movement of armed men trying to breach the LoC fence from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir side. Responding swiftly to actionable intelligence inputs, the Army and BSF launched a coordinated counter-infiltration operation in the rugged and densely forested terrain.
During the operation, troops detected a group of 4-5 heavily armed infiltrators exploiting the difficult terrain under the cover of darkness and adverse weather. While the infiltrators attempted to retreat under cover fire and foliage, one individual—later identified as the guide facilitating the group—was apprehended alive.
The captured individual, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that he was operating under the instructions of Pakistani Army officers posted along the LoC. He also confirmed the identities of the infiltrators as members of the JeM terror outfit, revealing they were carrying substantial quantities of arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
A massive search operation was launched in the area following the encounter, leading to the recovery of a mobile phone, Pakistani currency, and other incriminating materials.
Officials believe the injuries sustained by the terrorists will severely hamper their ability to mount any immediate future attacks. The Indian Army is currently extracting further operational intelligence from the apprehended guide, which is expected to aid in neutralising deeper terror infrastructure across the LoC.
“This successful operation reflects the Indian Army’s unmatched vigilance, readiness, and commitment to protecting our borders. The capture of the guide and the thwarting of the infiltration attempt yet again exposes Pakistan’s active role in sponsoring terror in Jammu and Kashmir,” a senior Army officer said.
The Indian Army continues to maintain a high alert and multi-tiered counter-infiltration grid across the LoC to counter repeated attempts by Pakistan to disrupt peace in the region.
