New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday, May 1, inaugurated a statue and officially renamed a road in Delhi’s Kailash Colony to ‘Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Marg’ in honour of the Bodo leader. The event marked the 35th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and was organized to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of the Bodo community at the national level. Notably, this marks the second instance of a road in New Delhi being named after a prominent Assamese personality—preceded by a road named after Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

While addressing the gathering at the event, Amit Shah reaffirmed the Central Government’s strong stance against terrorism, emphasizing that the fight against this menace will not end until terrorism is eradicated from the country. He declared, “Terrorists should not assume that they have achieved a major success. This battle is far from over. Chun chun ke badla lenge (we will take revenge on each one).”

Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Shah emphasized that the Modi government is fully committed to eradicating terrorism from every region of the country. “Har vyakti ko chun chun ke jawab bhi milega, jawab bhi diya jayega… This is the Narendra Modi government; no one will be spared. Our resolve is to uproot terrorism from every inch of this nation, and we will fulfill that mission,” the Union Home Minister declared.

He further stated, “If anyone thinks their cowardly attacks have led to a great victory, they must remember—this is the Modi government, and no wrongdoer will escape justice. We are determined to eliminate terrorism from every corner of India. Our fight will not cease until this threat is completely destroyed. In this battle, not only are 140 crore Indians standing united, but the entire world supports us. Nations across the globe have aligned with India in the fight against terrorism. I want to reiterate this unwavering commitment: we will pursue this battle until terrorism is completely uprooted, and those responsible will undoubtedly face appropriate punishment.”

Amit Shah made these remarks during the ceremony dedicated to commemorating the legacy of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma by unveiling his statue and renaming the road in his honor. Shah also noted that the government has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in Kashmir since the 1990s. He assured that a firm and decisive response will be delivered to those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attacks.

“Today, I want to make it clear to the people that our government has upheld a stringent zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in Kashmir since the early 1990s. Those who have been involved in acts of terror should not believe they have achieved victory by taking innocent lives. I want to deliver a clear message to all who spread terror—this is not the end. Every individual responsible will be held accountable and will receive a fitting response,” Shah concluded.

On the other hand, addressing the gathering, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for fulfilling the promise made to the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) by renaming a road in Delhi’s Kailash Colony after Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. The decision, announced earlier by Shah during the 57th ABSU conference in Kokrajhar, honors Bodofa’s legacy of non-violence and commitment to inclusive societal progress. Dr. Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to BTR’s development and acknowledged that earlier recognition of Bodo aspirations could have prevented much unrest. He highlighted the Bodo Peace Accord’s role in establishing lasting peace and announced a Hindi publication on Bodofa’s life. He also mentioned national efforts to honor Lachit Barphukan, underlining the unprecedented recognition tribal leaders now receive under BJP rule.

Meanwhile, CEM Pramod Boro hailed the road naming and statue unveiling as a historic tribute to Bodofa’s legacy, thanking PM Modi and Amit Shah for national recognition of the Bodo leader. ABSU President Dipen Boro praised Bodofa as a revolutionary who empowered the Bodo people to embrace their identity, language, and culture.
