CHRISTIANITY: Heart that keeps returning

A beautiful mystery lies hidden in the ocean. No matter how many rivers pour into it, no matter how many rains fall upon it, the ocean is never full. It keeps receiving, giving, and moving forward.

Similarly, the human heart—your heart and mine—is never done loving. That is because we are made in the image of a God who is love. The Bible tells us, “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Long before we ever turned to God, He loved us. Like the ocean depths, His love is vast, deep, and beyond measure.
But in this world, our hearts often get wounded. We feel rejected, disappointed, and forgotten. And in our pain, we sometimes stop loving.
We pull away from others. We even distance ourselves from God.
Yet the miracle is this: the heart was created not just to feel pain—but to return. Return to love. Return to God. Again and again.
The ocean never says, “I’ve had enough.” It keeps receiving the rivers. The heart, too, is invited to return to God’s love every day. No matter how far you’ve gone, no matter how dry or bitter your season may feel—God is not done with you. His love is not seasonal. It is eternal.

The book of Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) says: “My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, but pray for forgiveness for your past deeds” (Sirach 21:1). The way home is always open.
The sea of God’s mercy has not dried up. He is not angry. He is waiting.
Let us not be afraid of our unfinished hearts. They are unfinished because they are made to be filled with Him. So come. Return. Love again. Pray again. Trust again. For as the ocean is never full, so the heart is never done loving—never done returning to the God who first loved us.
