Nitish son Nishant set to enter politics, eyes Harnaut seat
The Harnaut seat holds significant symbolic and political weight for the JDU and Nitish.

Bihar’s 2025 elections in spotlight as Nishant Kumar apparently prepares his son for political debut.

New Delhi: As Bihar prepares for the upcoming 2025 state Assembly elections, political movements are gradually gaining momentum—and so is the spotlight on Janata Dal United (JDU). With Nitish Kumar possibly approaching the final chapter of his political career, he is reportedly paving the way for his son, Nishant Kumar, to step into the political arena. Speculation about Nishant contesting the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections has intensified, especially in light of his frequent public appearances alongside his father in recent months. Although Nishant has so far maintained a low political profile and consistently avoided media questions about his electoral intentions or leadership aspirations, his increased visibility in 2025 has not gone unnoticed.

According to a senior JDU insider who spoke to The Sunday Guardian, it is nearly confirmed that Nishant will make his political debut in the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled for October-November this year. The source emphasised that Nishant embodies the legacy, discipline, and administrative acumen of his father, and could play a vital leadership role in shaping the party’s future. It was further revealed that Nishant is likely to contest from the Harnaut Assembly seat in Nalanda district or a nearby constituency.

The Harnaut seat holds significant symbolic and political weight for the JDU and Nitish. It is considered a stronghold of the Bihar Chief Minister’s party and has remained under JDU control for the past two decades. In fact, Nitish began his electoral journey from this very seat. Presently, Harinarayan Singh of the JDU is the sitting MLA from Harnaut, having secured the seat for three consecutive terms. Since 1995, the constituency has been consistently won by candidates from JDU or its earlier incarnation, the Samata Party.

Political analysts observe that Nishant’s presence at key events is not coincidental. He has been seen attending emotionally and politically charged occasions, including family memorials and public gatherings with strong political undertones, alongside Nitish. These calculated appearances are being viewed as part of a larger strategic narrative.

A political observer remarked, “Nishant shows leadership potential, and under Nitish Kumar’s guidance, he could emerge as a significant political figure in the coming years.”

Although the BJP has officially endorsed Nitish as the chief ministerial candidate for the 2025 elections, the growing buzz surrounding Nishant’s political future could influence not only JDU’s internal dynamics but also succession planning within the broader NDA alliance.
