My Anthem in Life

    My Kali
The Air I breathe is rich with Oxygen
    Fresh, like that day’s sunrise
Yet I seek the gasping breath
    On your snow mountains
    With both Oxygen and sunlight
    Playing guerilla games

The water I drink is clear, Kali
As clear as teardrops which have cleansed
    My heart of accumulated hurts
Rising from a spring of Hope
I can never locate in maps
    Predating Google
Yet I seek that water running off
With the dust on your feet
    As an elixir for me

    The Earth we inhabit, Kali
That you handed over to human beings
    To love and nurture
    Has been ravaged by greed
Worse, by hatred for no reason
Which means it will never end
Yet I seek the warmth of Your lap
    Sharing space with Universes
    Yet unrevealed to us

The Fire that cooks and warms me
Has the optimum wood as it’s source
I have planted more than hundred trees
Nurtured them;so there is a clan of trees
    near me
Yet Kali, those fires are cold
Even as the flames dance their intense choreography
But in me burns a Fire for You
    For that feeling in me
    Not just devotion or love
But something I whisper to myself
    “Devism”, it’s Sanskrit root meaning
    To give inner pleasure
    Something Kali, you specialize in
    Now the Space,
    Ah, there is no space,
Nothing that does not contain you
Your various forms, we try to identify
    separate and label
    As we seek to understand

    Yes
    There is You and me
Distinct, yet together in an astral pull
    Felt everywhere, seen nowhere
    You are the blessed night
    The clear day
    You are the Sound, yes
    Cacophony to Melody
You are in the stink of rotting flowers
    The poojari forgot to clean
You are the smell of sandal
    Hiding deep within it›s roots
You are the names people use
    To give a tongue lashing,
    Predecessor of physical attack
You are words which calm and soothe
Minds like waves on a New Moon night
    You are that Guru›s touch
    His voice being  caress enough

Yes Kali I cannot limit you
To just what is good, just, beautiful
As if its› opposites were spawned
    By something alien to you

Kali, I have sung You this song
Lived and lived for so long
    My Kali
    Enough!
    Time has exceeded for me
    To morph into the way
    You are, invisible
    But there
Like dreams behind the wakeful eye
    Come Kali! Exterminate me
A privilege you give to demons
    Love-hating you
    Holding opposites together
    As You do, Kali
